Update from the Director

In August your sons and daughters embarked on our transformational journey with us at Thames Academy. We are approaching three weeks of academic and social growth. In the last few weeks we have had some exciting and dynamic interaction within and outside the classroom. As active crew members, we believe the most exciting aspects of Thames Academy is our unique approach to education, personal growth, and quality of life in student achievement.

As we continue our journey, we will be working on personal growth including social and academic goals, through resident life connections. In the area of personal growth, we recognize that all of the students at Thames Academy are working on different goals and have different destinations. Students are engaged in club activities, social programming, and student activities.  Student advisors are also connecting to make sure that they aren’t missing opportunities on campus that might go unnoticed.
The area of academic growth is measured through attendance, participation and comes in the way of Early Academic Reports (EAR) where you have a snapshot of the first few weeks of academic coursework. You will find distinct reflections on what is happening in the classroom. We do not include a grade in these reports because we find that students settle into the routine and academic rigor when they go over their comments and class goals with their instructor.

Resident life connections are part of a dynamic collaboration between Community Advisers and our management team. They are working on proactive and approachable living goals for the students that include, some basic house rules, social curriculum, study hall, and understanding different campus assets that students should be accessing (health and wellness, campus safety, and student activities). This will require students to be more mindful of the house rules and evening programing, but will take into consideration all the social ways our students interact.

These are all proactive shifts that are happening to make our journey smooth and to ensure that each student can grow, learn, and move to their goals that they are passionate about. It is through these transformational additions that our Thames Academy program can effectively transition each individual student. If you have any questions or need more information contact please let us know, or visit us during family day.

Best,
Jacqueline Jewett, Director
