Mitchell
College has appointed Jacqueline Jewett as the Director of Thames Academy. Jacqueline
has been an educational consultant and school advocate for 20 years, with
proven expertise and understanding in coaching families through the
ever-changing world of education. Her national presentations and workshops include
understanding advocacy, Montessori in the public sector, and positive
discipline for teachers and parents. In addition she has worked with a
development teams to develop, coordinate, and teach in Higher Education
Partnerships programs for MS in Special Education in both Early Childhood and
Childhood Education and Montessori leading to State certification. She is a
leader in education business with outstanding interpersonal skills and project
management ability. Results driven with a proven track record with
understanding learning differences. She
takes a cognitive coaching approach-guiding family through the education
process. She actively participates in IEP /PPT/ 504 and RTI meetings, working
collaboratively with both school personnel and outside treatment teams. In
addition, she provides guidance and understanding of school process, special
education advocacy, study skills and test prep, executive function strategies,
transition life skills and coping skills for school based anxiety.
Jacqueline
started in July and has been immersed in this year’s class of Thames Academy students. “I
think my strengths are based in my experience as an educational consultant,”
Jewett said. “I am well versed in parent relations, curriculum, policy, and
developing a self-advocating student.” Now that the students are back and the
classes have started, she is rolling up her sleeves and connecting with the
current class. “This is an incredible journey. And I am thrilled to be
embarking on this voyage with the students, the faculty, and the entire Mitchell
Community.” Jacquie resides in Guilford CT with her husband and six children.
Thames
Academy is a pre-college program where students prepare for and take credit as well as non-credit college courses. Students immersed in the program move through college level courses,
experiential courses, and executive function skills to master the tools they
will need to be successful in college. It is located on the scenic Mitchell College campus on the
Thames River in New London, Connecticut.
