Graphic Novel Class Hosts Artist/Author This Week!

Local illustrator and author, Jason Deeble (picture at right), will be coming to Thames Academy this week to work with students on sequential art. The workshop will take place Monday evening and will be a hands on, experiential workshop for students in Ron Samul's graphic novel course.

Thames Academy faculty, Ron Samul, is teaching a fall semester liberal studies writing course at Thames titled, "Critical Understanding of the Graphic Novel." Students in the course will explore sequential art (reading between the frames, iconography, understanding the human form), storytelling, superheroes, and social and political graphic novels.

Some graphic novels the class will discuss include:

- Maus I: A Survivor's Tale: My Father Bleeds History by Art Spiegelman
- Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi 
- March: Book One by John Lewis
- Watchmen by Alan Moore and David Gibbons
