Thames Academy understands the challenges and joys involved in parenting. We also know that parenting a son/daughter with a disability adds an additional layer of advocacy, emotion and responsibility to a parent's job. Thames Academy believes it is important to support parents and caregivers of our students and so we have created many ways to connect with you and offer you support.
-*NEW* Parent Bookshelf - Our newest parent resource is a collection of books for parents which are available to take, borrow and read at your leisure. The books are on a variety of topics and multiple copies are available for you to read for free!
A few of the titles on our Parent Bookshelf include:
Some benefits of the Thames Parent Bookshelf:
-You can browse books before you decide to purchase them online or to read on your tablet
- You may find a book to recommend to a friend/ family
- If there is a desire, Thames can begin a 'Book of the Semester' club where faculty/staff and parent share in a common read and discuss together.
- For questions about the bookshelf (or to recommend a book to add) contact Jennifer Sullivan. Jennifer has read all of the books on the Parent Bookshelf and can suggest an appropriate book if you are looking for a place to start!
-The Thames Academy Parent Blog is updated daily with articles of interest to any parent of a teenager, pictures of our students in the classroom and having fun, and resources that will help you during your year in our program. For questions or suggestions about the blog, please contact us.
-Parent Workshops are held monthly and offer parents (current, former and incoming) opportunities to connect with each other, interact with Thames faculty and staff, and learn tools and strategies to reinforce success both at home and at school. Click the 'Parent Workshop' tab on our website for more information.
