Again, don't worry if your son/daughter hasn't mastered these skills before move-in day...the idea is to become familiar with college expectations and begin practicing these skills at home. Thames Academy will reinforce these skills throughout the year both inside and outside of the classroom.

COLLEGE READINESS SKILL #8:
Storing Usernames & Passwords

In college, your teenager will be required to be proficient with a computer but also keep track of the variety of accounts, email addresses, usernames and passwords. If you are a student with a weak working memory, how can you remember all of this information?

The articles and links below provide great advice for apps to download on your phone which can serve as your "working memory."

Parents : Over the summer help your teenager think about all of the internet accounts that they use on a daily basis (email addresses, websites, online shopping, bank acocunts, etc.). Make sure they know their usernames and passwords for these accounts. Then brainstorm with them a strategy that will help them store this information. It might be a downloadable app, an email sent to themselves, or a piece of paper with the important information in their wallet (be careful if they tend to lose things easily)!
